Israeli President Shimon Peres arrived today to the European Parliament, in Brussels, to conduct a series of meetings with Parliamentarians and participate in a ceremony marking the 70th anniversary of the rescue of the Bulgarian Jews.
I was among the Members who were invited to convene with Mr. Peres privately. At the meeting, 89-year-old, Polish born, President of Israel gave a historical analytical overview of the current political and economic affairs in Israel and the Middle East.
He also spoke about the Iranian nuclear threat, Syria’s chemical weapons, the peace process between the Israeli and the Palestinians and strengthening of the strategic relations between Israel and the EU.
Next week Mr. Peres will come again to the European Parliament, this time in Strasbourg, where he will address the plenary. This will be the first time an Israeli leader speaks before the European Parliament in its current format.
